On Friday, 26 June, Nationaal Park Nieuw Land is organizing the fourth knowledge symposium. The focus will be on the unique young soil of the bird-rich national park. The symposium will take place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the visitors' center and management building of Staatsbosbeheer, Kitsweg 1 in Lelystad.

The young soil of Nieuw Land consists of sand, peat, and clay and forms the basis for the unique nature in the area. Under the leadership of day chairman Thijs Stam, four expert speakers will take you into the history of these soils and the processes that occur within them. During field excursions, participants can also get acquainted with different soil types themselves.

Land reclaimed by humans

National Park Nieuw Land tells the story of nature development on land reclaimed by humans. The park includes the Oostvaardersplassen, Lepelaarplassen, Marker Wadden, and the Markermeer. It is precisely the combination of an ancient soil history and a landscape created by human intervention that makes this national park unique.
